Arguments Against Genetically Modified Food

1520 Words7 Pages

Food Fight Throughout human existence, people have pondered the solution to world hunger. Some scientists believe that genetically modified food is the answer to this problem. This modified food is achieved by tampering with DNA. If scientists want to make a certain food bigger they would add genes found in different organisms and add them into food. Some scientists find that there is nothing wrong with genetically modified organisms, yet many scientists are not sure if the producers are safe. It is believed that genetically modified food is harmless and will solve world hunger through making food better by rotting slower, growing bigger, and increasing resistance to pests. I believe the opposite is true since evidence has shown that genetically modified food is actually dangerous and will not …show more content…

It uses a scientific process using DNA to make food better. The science is known as genetic engineering. Genetically modified food wants to end world hunger by creating seeds that will be given to countries were food is scarce. The seeds are suppose to be able to survive the harshest of condition such as, low water supply, extreme weather, and be naturally resistant to pests. The first crops ever designed were crops whose purpose was to resist pests (Can Help End World Hunger). Research labs are currently working on crops that can withstand climate stress such as cold, heat and low water supply (Can Help End World Hunger).
Genetically modified foods are dangerous for many reasons. To start, I think that genetically modified food is built on science that is not fully concrete. The foundation of genetic engineering is built on a misconception (Genetically Modified). It is believed that organisms can still be deemed the same even after being genetically modified (Genetically Modified). This method does not sound like a natural thing and can lead to unknown
