Genetically modified food is becoming a larger and larger part of our civilization and there are many questions as to whether or not is for the better. In fact there is a very large amount of genetically modified foods on the market today. One of the most prominent foods in stores is corn, about 70% of all corn is genetically modified and makes up the products in stores and is also fed to animal produce. The general current opinion on genetically modified food is that people absolutely do not approve of it and yet it is in the majority of products in the market. Genetically modified corn and other foods have only been around since 1994, started mainly by the company Monsanto that has patented all of its genetically modified seeds in corn and wheat. Scientists go into the DNA, which makes up the genetic code and take out some of the code and put in new code to change the genes, which in turn, change what the organism does. In the biotech food industry, most modifying is done to change how the food will deal with bacteria or insects, by changing the food to be more tolerant to these problems. However in doing so, and what is most concerning to the general public is that these minor changes in corn, and other products may have huge impacts on us, the consumers, and if not us, then perhaps our children or even our grandchildren. As genetically modified food is already extremely prominent in our current lives, one would hope that at the very least we consumers can choose between modified and non-modified foods. Unfortunately this is not the case, but as the topic becomes more and more popular, it will probably come up in government and changes will come in to label foods in markets. It more a question of how far will labeling go, whether or not it will just be on the original foods, such as buying corn itself, or if it will be in processed foods made up of corn, such as
