Arguments Against Legalizing Marijuana

People are against marijuana due to their lack of knowledge on the subject. Marijuana goes by many names, including pot, cannabis, weed, bud, herb, etc. They may believe it’s bad because it can affect the body’s respiratory system and other organs in the body. However, marijuana affects everybody differently. It has been proven to help people with cancer, and other chronic conditions and diseases. Also, Cannabis isn’t as harmful as the other substances that have already been legalized. When marijuana is used appropriately, it isn’t nearly as bad as many people believe. Do people believe that marijuana is more addictive than other drugs? Studies have shown how many Americans have tried pot over cocaine. About 40 percent of Americans have tried pot once, and 16 percent of Americans have tried cocaine. It’s impressive that people are in favor of legalizing marijuana rather than criminalizing it. The reason so many people are supporting marijuana has to do with the age group. It’s very likely people who are 65 and above have never been around marijuana. They believe it's a very dangerous drug. Therefore, they will be completely against marijuana. Gallup created a survey to see who supported marijuana use. Gallup ended up breaking the survey up into age groups. For adults under the age of 30, 62 percent supported marijuana use. For people between the ages of 30 to 49, 56 percent supported marijuana use. For those between the ages of 50 to 64, 49 percent supported marijuana use. For adults 65 and above, 31 percent supported marijuana use. People 65 and older had a significantly lower percentage than the other age
