In history marijuana usage has been frowned upon and viewed as the demise of our nation. Decades of unanswered questions, confusion, and misinformation have distorted the public’s understanding of marijuana. But in this day in age technology is booming and lifestyles have drastically taken a different road. People live a very active lifestyle and have been more open to trying new things. Society no longer holds old fashioned ideals because of how advanced it has become. Americans are more in favor of legalizing marijuana than criminalizing it. In 2013, Colorado and Washington both passed laws decriminalizing marijuana. Marijuana is all over the United States and is even seen in movies and music. Marijuana has a multitude of positive purposes that have just recently been explored by professionals. According to the Huffington Post, 58 percent of Americans are in favor of allowing the plant to be legal. Research has shown that marijuana is one of the safest drugs on the market. There have been no reported cases of deaths caused by marijuana overdoses. People may think having a large amount of THC in your system will kill you, but that is invalid. On the other hand, “in 2010, 38,329 people died from prescription drug overdoses, and in that same year, 25,692 people died from alcohol-related causes” (Jacques). People generally Marijuana is composed of THC which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is one of the “113 chemical compounds found only in the plant genus cannabis and is unique among all the rest for one, massively important reason: it’s the most potently psychoactive” (Ericson).
