Growing up, we are forever told that “Drugs are bad, drugs will kill you,” over and over again. Although we were young and we did not know any better, we chose to listen to our guardians because they knew best. Growing up in this this century I found that even though drugs might be illegal, people choose to take the risk and use drugs regardless of the consequences. At 19 years old I still question why people would consider risking their lives by breaking the law and face jail time over a drug. This drug I am talking about it called Marijuana. Although that also could be true for many drugs out there, like alcohol for example. Many strong drugs such as heroine, painkillers and cocaine are much more dangerous compared to Marijuana. Which is one of the reasons why we shouldn’t put Marijuana in the same category as those powerful drugs. There have been no records deaths over the consumption of Marijuana, which makes it different to those other hard drugs. The problem the United States faces on whether it can be legalized is the people that are anti marijuana legalization, because they claim it is bad for health. They claim that people would abuse the drug and then it would effect the mental state of human beings. Although this is not true, there are many major health benefits such as Migraines. Since medicinal marijuana was legalized in California, doctors have reported that they have been able to treat more than 300,000 cases of migraines that conventional medicine couldn’t through marijuana (Derysh.) Another health benefit would be Cancer. Although people have different opinions, Igor Derysh claims that there is a lot of unfounded rhetoric that states smoking pot can cause lung cancer because your inhaling smoke, like cigarettes.
