The history of laws which governs marijuana in the United States is remarkable. There were several motivations making marijuana illegal. Many goals involve war on drugs. War on drugs has not been successful at reducing drug usage. It has been successful in reducing the harm associated with it. War on drugs is costly. In 1996 in California a marijuana law was approved. It was the first state that legalized marijuana for medical uses. (time.com) After marijuana was legalized in California twenty-two other states and Washington DC and Guam followed. (time.com) The medical marijuana was issued to patients who had medical issues like glaucoma and social anxiety. It could only be used if their doctor prescribed it to help their symptoms. Marijuana is addictive. (thoughtco.com) According to the controlled substance act of 1970 it is considered a schedule one drug since people are more likely to become violent when using marijuana. Most people think that marijuana should not be used for medical reasons. People who are for legalizing marijuana are trying to find out ways that prove that marijuana is helpful in the medical area. Marijuana has been compared with other drugs such as heroin and cocaine. (thoughtco.com) Most people who are for legalizing marijuana has not made a relative argument regarding legalizing marijuana permanently. Other motives regarding legalizing marijuana is that it is the main drug that is abused by people. People who use marijuana are the ones who are in jail or prison because how powerful the drug is. Marijuana can change how a person reacts to certain situations and it can allow their moods to switch. The motives to not legalize marijuana were justified because people have yet to prove their argument on why it should be legal. There should be valid points as to what marijuana could do for medical use and how it could benefit using it recreationally
