In my opinion, a transformational leader is someone who improves her own skills while developing the talents of her followers. However, a transformational leader cannot be credited for just any type of skillset that she may induce within her followers. For instance, some class discussion revolved around whether or not Hitler was a transformational leader. While Hitler was charismatic, a component of transformational leadership, he certainly did not improve his own morality or the morality of his followers. Hitler’s blatant disregard for morals prevents him from being a transformational leader. As a result, if a leader is not mentoring her followers to act with integrity and honesty, she cannot possess a transformational leadership style.

Even though Ascensus has not hired more employees to help with this burden, its client service representatives must maintain an identical level of customer service to both old and new clients. Rick possesses charisma, a component of transformational leadership, so many of the client service representatives perceive Rick to be one of their role models. Since Rick oversees most of the clients’ accounts, many client service representatives learn how to treat clients through Rick’s successful example. Demonstrating his competence, Rick realized that a lot of client service representatives might be uncomfortable the increased call volume. As a result, Mr. Irace led meetings that reinforced the company’s core values, which are a source of intrinsic motivation for employees. Also, Mr. Irace encouraged employees to handle the burden by coming up with process improvements. A few months after these meetings, Ascensus was able to increase its net promoter score, a measurement of customer loyalty. As a result, I think that Mr. Irace is a transformational leader, because he was able to motivate his employees by being confident in their abilities. The main argument for this premise is that transformational leaders will induce trust within their followers, and that these followers will become attached to the organization’s mission. With an increase in commitment, the organization will be able to better achieve its goals by avoiding high employee turnover rates. Further, transformational leadership is crucial to the success of any business, because transformational leaders will encourage followers to break free from pre-existing notions of how to do business. With such inspiration, followers will increase the longevity of the business by assisting with R&D efforts and process improvements. While this style can instill motivation and commitment within followers, some leaders may not be able to possess this style. Since this style requires leaders to possess certain behavioral traits, it prevents this style from being teachable. Another challenge with this style is that there is no evidence to suggest that transformational leaders actually change their followers or the organizations that they operate
