Assignment 2: Colorado Academic Standards

Goal 2: Creates learning experiences that make content knowledge accessible, exciting, and meaningful for all students

The standards addressed for Goal 2 include 2.9 and 2.11. Standard 2.9 utilizes the Colorado Academic Standards in planning and developing lesson plan objectives that are based on standards and evidence outcomes. Standard 2.11 ensures that the student is developing the necessary content knowledge needed, in order to teach general knowledge, mathematics, and literacy.

The supporting evidence for standard 2.9 includes: 2 lesson plans with all materials (direct and indirect). The supporting evidence for standard 2.11 includes: Pueblo Community College and Colorado State University – Pueblo’s transcripts, 3 faculty recommendations,

The standards, expectations, objectives, activities, and assessments presented in these lesson plans have supported the Colorado Academic Standards. I have also worked this semester on developing objectives for my lesson plans. It is not only important to make sure that the objective is aligned with the appropriate standard and assessment, but also that the objective has all the necessary elements, such as observable and measurable behavior, all important conditions, and mastery criteria. I have taught two lesson plans for a second grade class this semester and had both Dr. Peters and my cooperating teacher review them to verify that they were aligned accordingly, before the lessons were taught.

I received my Associates of Arts degree in Elementary Teacher Education from Pueblo Community College and am currently continuing my education at Colorado State University – Pueblo. I am developing the content knowledge needed in liberal studies, as well as mathematics, literacy, and science. I am striving to complete my degree in Liberal Studies and minor in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Science. I have included my transcripts from both schools as evidence of how I am working every day to accomplish standard

Although I am new to this process, I feel confident with the time and effort that I have put into preparing the lesson plans for my Frameworks of Teaching class, along with my Educational Media and Technology class, thus far. However, I know that I will need to continue putting in the time and effort, in order to make sure that the standards, expectations, objectives, activities, and assessments, presented in my future lesson plans, continue to align with the Colorado Academic Standards. I also need to continue working on developing objectives that align with the appropriate standards and assessments and contain all the required elements. I need to continue to practice simplifying my objectives into one sentence that includes the requirements. Not only did I complete the necessary requirements to graduate from PCC, but I did so with a 3.88 grade point average. At PCC, I also received an award for Outstanding Student Recognition in Science, made the President’s List for three consecutive semesters, and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Since, I returned back to school in 2014, I have dedicated myself to studying hard and giving every assignment 100 percent. I have received an “A” in every course and am proud of that accomplishment.
