In the article “At some schools, ‘Big Brother’ is watching” by Kelly Wallace, tells us about a new idea of having schools monitor our social media and other online stuff we use to find threats to help the prevention of suicide. What if this is not put to use and does not have any effect towards the prevention of suicide? Well there will be students ending their lives because they are being cyber bullied. Just recently there was a 12 year old girl in Florida named Rebecca Sedwick who was constantly cyber bullied and the result of this was, she jumped to her death in September (Wallace). Personally I think the author is right.
After being stranded on an island with no sign of rescue or grownups, the schoolboys need some form of government or leader to rule them all. The first day they discover they are not alone, the boys elect Ralph, one of the older boys, to lead them. He believes they need authority, in place of the grownups. Otherwise, chaos will break out, as it does later on. Golding’s Lord of the Flies serves as a perfect illustration of Hobbes’s philosophy on the brutish, selfish nature of man and, therefore, the need for a strong government.
After few hours reading, “The Sanctuary of School” was written by Lynda Barry, grew up in an interracial neighborhood in Seattle, Washington State. Then, I think this article was interesting to read. I love the way how she told us her past experience by using her own voice to lead us step by step get into her story, then she also shares us about her feeling and how it impacted to her future life. Plus, at the end, she argues that the government should not be cutting the school programs and art related activities. Those programs definitely do help the students and the parents as well.

In the novel Shattering Glass and the play Romeo and Juliet the evolution of bullying can be seen, but yet no one had tried to stop it in either of the books. In the play Romeo and Juliet the families bully each other around until eventually their own kids take their lives, because they could not be together due to the feud. In the book Shattering Glass by Gail Giles the characters touch a little bit on cyberbullying, but mainly they verbally and physically abuse people in the story to help them achieve what the characters want.
Likewise, schools have had to pay enormous amounts of money in settlements. 70,000 dollars were paid to a Minnesota student for being forced to give up her passwords to her social media accounts. Should Schools Monitor Students Social Media!?!? Have you ever showed up at school and had a friend or classmate tell you about a rumor directed towards you? I think schools should monitor students social media posts but, only if there seems to be problems occurring and disrupting the class. Cyberbullying can lead to low self esteem and depression, causing worse things. Document E, document B and, document D all agree with limiting/monitoring students online speech.
But, by neglecting the students their freedom of speech outside of school, it’s just plain ridiculous. For example, in a survey conducted in London, UK, 85% of British school teachers claimed that they were never a victim of cyberbullying (Document B). If our school is worried that students are threatening to harm our fellow teachers or specific students, that’s a valid reason as to why they’d want to monitor what we post. If a student is simply saying “Mrs. (insert name here) sucks as a teacher” on their twitter/facebook/etc, that’s their personal opinion. You can’t discipline that student for having an opinion.

Cyberbullying leads to dreadful documentaries and personal insecurities. Not only can it be used against students by school officials but it can lead to a horrible impact in someone's life. This sentence is important because a students life can matter based on a students bad decisions. Some school officials believe that bad behavior may lead a student down the complete opposite of success.
There have been two unfortunate suicidal cases in recent years due to cyber bullying: one victim jumped off a cement factory tower with the one shot himself in the chest. A group of Dutch researchers decided to study the relationship between the bullying and the suicides. Many students feel that they won’t have as much privacy if their schools monitor their online activity. In fact, Clarissa Rodriguez, a student at Canyon High in Anaheim Hills stated that she “doesn’t even like her parents looking through [her] feed, much less teachers and others at [her] school” (Source 1). This quote proves that the students will not feel comfortable if their schools begin to check their social media accounts. By checking their social media accounts, the schools are invading their privacy. Social media is meant to be another way for people to express themselves, however students will not be able to do that if they feel their being watched by their school.

And I believe, no, a school should not have access to a student’s social media. I do, however, think that parents should pay closer attention to what kids are doing on social media. But school should focus on what is happening in the school and leave what happens out of it to the parents. Parents should have the duty of keeping track of what their kids are doing on the internet.
If students are not allowed to use our phones to view emails, text messages or anything that sort they cannot get that information. Students also need to be able to reach our parents for rides or any other stuff we might need. Social Media Passwords About 90% of teens have had a social media account and about 75% have a profile on a social networking site. Many schools are now trying to get childrens passwords to their social media accounts. Schools should not have access to children’s social media accounts because even though they are only children it’s an invasion of their privacy and life at home. Also, teachers shouldn't be able to just log into their accounts at any moment in the day to see what the kids are doing. On the contrary, school administrators should have access to students accounts if needed for important purposes, like bullying or other school violations.
