From kindergarten to high school graduation, students are under attendance policies. The attendance policies even continue throughout college and in the workplace in most cases. By the time a student reaches college, he begins to question attendance policies. North Greenville University in particular is one of many universities that has and enforces an attendance policy. While many students argue that attendance policies should not be enforced, others disagree. Attendance is very important, and college attendance can be very costly. Contrary to popular belief, North Greenville University should have an attendance policy. It is the University’s job to give students what they paid for. A student’s presence in class ensures that he is receiving the information he needs in order to be knowledgeable and qualified in his degree area. While a student may be able to maintain high grades without steady attendance, it is unlikely that he will cover all of the material within the course thoroughly. Professors help students understand and reinforce the textbook material. Professors have experience, and they have a lot of extra wisdom to offer. Being in class could also help a student to maintain higher grades, as test material often comes from lectures. Pop quizzes and participation points are also fair game which one could only receive by being present. Many students feel that they are capable of maintaining good grades without going to class, and they feel that they can learn on their own. College means taking classes towards a degree.
