The first meme depicts a man speaking to a woman, most likely married, about the current “bathroom debate” and how Republicans should be elected so they can keep sex offenders or perverts out of women’s restrooms. The part that addresses “pervert men wearing wigs” is a reference to the majority of the conservative party’s view on transgender people, specifically men who identify as female, wearing wigs, makeup, and women’s clothing, may be seen as pedophiles or perverts entering women’s restrooms. The man in the cartoon takes on more of a conservative view on the issues of transgender people entering bathrooms opposite of their biological gender. However, these internet memes do not address the fact that Trump barely addressed the discrimination towards the LGBTQIA community before and during the election. Additionally, these memes do help further the ongoing debate between both conservatives and liberals who have a very clear line on who should use what restroom. Memes that address certain issues that are currently going on in politics, allow for many people to anonymously post facts or opinions about each candidate or political party. Trump’s actions, and the politicians that have been appointed to his cabinet, have proved that he does not care about the current issues going on. Many people of the LGBTQIA community were expecting President Trump to address the “bathroom debate” during his Address to Congress, but he did not bring it up at all.
