As a teacher researcher, it is the duty and responsibility for the educator to stay on top of current trends, recent research studies, strategies and up-to-date curriculum specific practices to ensure that they are providing the best possible teaching and learning experiences to the young minds they are charged with empowering with knowledge. The following is a brief synopsis of peer reviewed journal articles and how these articles are helpful in an actual classroom setting.

Students attend a three day, two night field trip where they get to experience and evaluate life on an actual cultivated farm. Students explore the resources used to harvest fresh foods, explore the science behind food preparation, prepare the food as a team and learn how certain foods impact our selection of choices. Students discover, discuss and create solutions to reduce food waste, carry out daily farm chores and functions, analyze animal v/s human behaviors on the farm, and decide which insects are beneficial and how to minimize pests. Students evaluate and discuss the future of agriculture, how farms provide essential resources, the impacts farms have on our natural resources, what are considered sustainable and functional management systems and brainstorm new ways to implement useful improvements for positive impacts to the farm. After this three-day, student-centered field trip, students walk away with a new understanding of the relationships between farming, food and the land and how these are all interdependent relationships we count on for our daily survival. Upon returning to school, students create power-point presentations, essay reports, poster boards and other products to share with the class, regular classroom teachers and administration detailing their farm life hands-on
