In doing some research, I touched on some key words in describing how one looks at the philosophy of diversity, but Cornell Thomas and John Butler couldn’t have said it any better. Here are four main things that describes diversity. Tolerance is acceptance and open-mindedness of different practices, attitudes, and cultures; does not necessarily mean agreement with the differences. Implies an acknowledgement, or an acceptance or respect.
It is an opportunity to create an environment where all individuals can contribute their unique perspectives and experiences to the collective knowledge. By embracing diversity, we are able to push past our preconceived notions and challenge the status quo. We can create a culture of understanding and respect for all individuals, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or other differences. Inclusivity allows us to see beyond our own experiences and gain new insights from those who are different from us. This helps us become better problem solvers, innovators and collaborators in whatever field we choose to pursue.

Diversity may mean different things to different people. To me, diversity is exactly that, being different and unique. Diversity makes the world a beautiful place to be, and full of interesting and different people. The beauty of human civilization lies in its diverse groups and cultures.

Many educators view this increase in diversity a problem rather than an opportunity. Diversity can be defined as people from different countries, races, religions, and sexes. A diverse community is one that values people with different backgrounds, skills, and attitudes. I will teach my kids to always be respectful to all humans no matter what their life is like. Diversity in the classroom can provide many more opportunities for our students.
Everyone runs into something that is challenging in their life at some point; some people have trouble with school, others with socialization, and some with the world as a whole. America is no exception to this. America has to deal with its own problems: racism, hunger, wars, etc. Some of these are based on differing views, but all of them would be fixed if America could unify and face problems as a country. For example: Americans acknowledge that world hunger is a problem but the majority only acknowledge that it is a problem and do not try to fix it.
Every person has his own definition to the word diversity. Some people view diversity as a good thing, and for other people it is not, because of its negative and positive impact on every society. Sometimes viewing the wide concept for diversity could be tricky to understand and because of its impact on our society, it became a hard thing to use. Diversity could be in religion, race, gender, age, social class and many other things. In order to understand the diversity, you have to study what shapes everyone’s personality.
Diversity can mostly help people gain more knowledge about different things or even things that they didn’t even know about. People gain a lot more knowledge from just listening to someone else’s view on a subject. This helps people in so many ways since you may not know what it’s like living day to day and someone can tell you how that is. Seeing different points that people share about how they feel or what they know widens the topic of how you can open up later. If you had a job interview and someone asked you a question about a topic you had no idea about but you listened to someone else talk about that to you one day you could use that to help you.
While identity focuses on uniqueness such as how an individual is different from and similar to others, diversity focuses on the range of the difference and uniqueness such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, among others. Diversity should be seen as source of strength. However, it can also be a source of violence, oftentimes by those who fear or dislike difference. In the best light diversity is foundation for peacebuilding – since it enables us to draw strength and be respectful of difference. Identity and diversity are linked.
Lastly, my understanding of diversity and your goal for developing it in the research workforce is that diversity enhances social development, self-awareness, and promotes creative thinking. It enhances social development in that by being exposed to people of different cultures and ethnicity, one may want to learn more about a community which can give them insight into how and why things work as they do and possibly a way to change them for the better. Diversity also enhances self-awareness in the same way it enhances social development, because since one is enticed to learn about different cultures which allows them to not view someone who is not like them background but it makes you self aware of the unique difference between human beings.

But, at the same time as Ola Joesph says, “Diversity is not about how we differ. Diversity is about embracing one another’s
