Some believe that the world began from a singularity known as the “Big Bang” (the big bang theory) 13.7 billion years ago and others believe that through his word, God made the world and everything in the world in it, during a period of seven days (the creation story). These theories/ possible myths seem to have nearly nothing in common and Astrophysicists and Creationists believe that it is simply a question of Fact vs Faith. However I seem to believe there is more to it, what if there was a way that the two theories connected? Through comparing and contrasting the theories, I am going to look in to the differences and similarities of the big bang theory and the Christian Creation Story and what evidence/biblical quotes we have to support …show more content…
God ends each day with ‘there was, evening, afternoon and morning’ assuming that these days are literal (24 hours). The passage starts with the words "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1). Day 2: God separated the water from the land and called it “sky”. Day 3: God created dry land and the gathered waters “seas” and he also formed vegetation (trees and plants). Day 4: God created the sun, moon and stars to separate the day from night which helped create days, years and seasons. Day 5: God created all living creatures and every winged bird, blessing them to multiply. Day 6: God created man and woman (Adam and Eve), he blessed them and gave them the job to care and rule over all creatures on earth. The table below Figure 1 shows the Big Bang Theory explains that the first oceans were one of the last created features of our universe however the Christian Creation story believes that on the first day of creation the earth was covered with water. In the same way the bible teaches that the Sun, Moon and stars were formed on the fourth day of creation after the dry land and vegetation, contradictory again the Big Bang Theory explains that the stars were the basis of our universe and everything was created from stars therefore they were the beginning of our universe. The bible also teaches us that the earth was created as a paradise although the Big Bang theory elucidates that it is like a molten blob. The bible and The Big Bang theory also argue significantly about the world’s future, from scientific evidence we understand that the world is continuing to expand and eventually we will run out of reusable energy however the bible believes that the world will be remade and paradise will be restored once again.
