Another day in the same cattle car, yet this time it has come to a stop. Some of them are dead, most starved, but none of them know what is coming. They have now arrived at Auschwitz where “Work Will Set You Free”. They have started to experience the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the event of Hitler wanting to eliminate all Jews because he did not like them and thought they needed to be eliminated due to them being different, he eliminated them by putting them in concentration camps. In these camps he starved, abused, and killed the Jews while also making them work at said camps. The Jews moved from camp to camp until the end of World War II, and the U.S. soldiers came across these camps, seeing all of these people who needed help, caused them to need to help them. …show more content…

However, while the Jews were being harshly treated, they still tried as hard as they could to survive. Elie’s father helped him find the strength and perseverance to move through the tough times of the Holocaust while they made sure to stick together. Elie and his father had just arrived at the camp, as they left the cattle cars they were being separated into groups by age, condition, and gender. Elie saw his mother and sister be taken away immediately. Elie knew he could not be separated from his father also, “My hand tightened its grip on my father. All I could think of was not to lose him. Not to remain alone.” (Wiesel 30). Altogether, Elie is staying strong for his father. Elie is doing whatever it takes to ensure that he does not lose his father, while many situations could split them apart. Hedi persevered through the Holocaust for the people.
