W.E.B. Dubois believes that blacks should demand that blacks fight for their freedom now. On the other hand, Booker T. Washington realizes that the whites aren’t ready for equality with blacks and that they need to gradually increase their freedom by becoming economically successful first then by gradually becoming free. After the Civil War and during the reconstruction time period for African Americans, the discussion of abolition and accommodation began. Even being free, blacks did not have equal rights to the white man and were not free from discrimination. Both the white and black populations split and argued for equality through submission or through demands. Booker T. Washington wrote the “Atlanta Compromise” to portray his ideas that the black population needs to submit to the white population to gain their equalities later on in time. Abolitionists such as W. E. B. Du Bois and Frederick Douglass disagreed with Washington’s ideas and instead wanted equal rights to earn their place in society.

Therefore, Booker T Washington's philosophy will be more effective than W.E.B DuBois because Booker T was able to connect more to African Americans because he was a slave. He knows how to persevere through hard work, and he thought through working hard African Americans could prove they are just as good as white people. Booker T. Washington's philosophy is better than W.E.B. Dubois because he was able to experience slavery first
During the late 19th and 20th century, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B DuBois were leaders of the black community. They had different methods of dealing with black civil rights. Booker T. Washington is not as passionate about civil rights as W.E.B DuBois. Booker T. Washington believes that there is no point in fighting for civil rights. At the start of the 20th century, there were two well-known African American leaders who wanted to achieve equality in America for African Americans. W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington did not agree on how to fight for the rights and opportunities for African Americans, even though they were alive in the same century. The life that African Americans experience during an important time in American history might be better understood by looking at their histories, philosophies, and achievements. Booker T. Washington saw how wrong slavery was from a young age, after being born into slavery in Franklin County, Virginia, in 1856. Washington wanted and managed to finish his studies, even though he and his family were faced with financial problems after being able to gain independence.
W.E.B DuBois’ plan was smarter than Booker T. Washington’s because DuBois’ plan was to fight for the rights of African Americans, and give people a good and equal education. Winter’s Bone, a novel by Daniel Woodrell, examines the struggles of people in rural areas through the protagonist, Ree Dolly. Set in the backwoods of the Ozarks, this story is filled with characters who partake in drugs, crimes, and violence. Woodrell paints a picture of the situation through the eyes of someone who is battling to survive the world while living in a community that is deeply affected by the effects of poverty. Of the numerous effects poverty has upon the rural community, Woodrell brings to light how a lack of education, overuse of drugs, and child abuse result from destitution. The issue of poverty can be complex, however, it is a much more abstract condition for over 40 million Americans who daily face struggles with food, shelter, and basic health care (Poverty).
