Subject: Boys and Girls Club of El Paso
Fellow RWS 1301 students,
Monday through Friday at 3:00 P.M. thousands of children and teenagers are out of school in El
Paso. 1 in 5 of these children have no adult supervision and often, nothing to eat. They spend their weekday afternoons in the streets and are exposed to numerous dangers, including juvenile delinquency. Their academic performance is hindered because they have no one to help them with their homework, and their parents often cannot afford babysitters or have another adult watch over their children.
The Boys and Girls Club of El Paso offers these children a safe haven. Members ages 6 to 18 are welcome on “latch-key” hours, that is, when they are not at home nor at school. Club members have a schedule of activities; they

During the summer months, the Boys and Girls Club offers camps including art, flag football, swimming, career exploration, and cheerleading.
The Club hosts health fairs that target the El Paso community and strive to teach families about dental and medical coverage, healthy eating and other community resources. Since the Boys and
Girls Club is a non-profit organization, its success is possible thanks to the contributions of donors and volunteers. Volunteering applications are available online and in person at any of its four locations. Those who qualify serve as tutors and take care of the facilities by making sure children have a clean, safe, and comfortable niche. Those who wish to make a one-time financial contribution are welcome to do so, and are also given the choice of becoming sustaining members. As a volunteer, I witness how much this Club helps the community; children develop confidence in their academic and social abilities, and their parents have peace of mind knowing that their children are in a safe place. I know of several members who have younger siblings also
