When looking to make a decision on whether or not to breast feed your child, there are many pros and cons consider. Over 70% of mothers at least attempt to breastfeed their child but by month six this percentage has dropped down to 36% (Parenting, 2014). Ideally, the longer a woman can breastfeed, the better it is for not only baby, but also mom. Every mother has different circumstances though, and so bottle feeding is another great option. The decision between breastfeeding and bottle feeding is a personal one and both have their own sets of pros and cons.

Depending on what type of job the mother has, this can be relatively easy though. Not every job will allow you to have breaks during the day to pump or go feed your baby. If a mother goes too long without expressing the milk somehow, not only will the mother be in a lot of pain, her nipples will leak, and eventually her milk supply will drop. Most working mothers end up formula feeding because it is just too hard to keep up their milk supply if they aren’t allowed to take multiple breaks throughout the day. The mother can always pump to give her some freedom, but in order to keep up a strong milk supply, it requires drinking lots of water, pumping or feeding every few hours, and ensuring you do not eat or drink things you do not wish to pass onto the baby. Breastfeeding can also be extremely painful for the mother; women can get mastitis, breast engorgement, plugged milk ducts, and sore nipples (Breastfeeding, 2018).
