The presence of Ads in today’s society is overwhelming. Every direction that one turns one is faced with Ads coming from audio, video, or newspapers. Even though ads seem to be beneficial, or promote a cause. product, etc, when it comes down to it, ads are merely a form of mild propaganda by companies which lead people to invest money into the advertised product. With Super Bowl ads, creators spend a great deal of time and money to find the perfect ad to appeal to one’s needs. In Bud Light’s Pac-Man Ad, advertisers use puffery, cognitive dissonance, motivational appeals, and common values to slyly envelop the audience into thinking that Bud Light creates a state of ecstasy.

He goes with some friends to a mini life size pacman game, wins the game and takes the spotlight in front of a huge crowd and band. This ad appeals to the ideals of adventure and change as well as personal enjoyment. One of the more subtle aspects of this ad, in the beginning, the man who enters the bar to get the bud light is in a relaxed atmosphere. The bar is set in a bland, restricted environment with people casually talking with no real excitement occurring. When the man receives the Bud Light everything changes. In a few seconds the scene changes from a low-life party to an abyss filled with endless excitement, just because he received a Bud Light. The dichotomy between these two amplify the prominence of marketing Bud Light. A so called “normal” beer would give one mild satisfaction as in the bar where the man first entered. Bud Light is that beer that can take normal and make it extraordinary. This is all a manufactured need built on the premise of adventure and change. There is no true way in which Bud Light is better. By getting the beer, it is implied that Bud Light leads to the high life, that Bud Light is a luxury beer and is meant to be exclusive.
