As a minor growing up in “Generation Z” , I have seen a wide and continually growing range of different career options. However, the medical science field is the only career path I wish to follow as there is a wide spectrum in this particular field that truly appeal to me. My specific aspiration is to become a pediatrician in hopes to work with children and teenagers. I hope to help cure any problems that a child may confront. More specifically, I seek to help find a cure for cancer in children . The most common type of cancer that occurs in young children is Leukemia. Leukemia is a certain type of cancer that occurs in the bone marrow. It is when an abnormal amount of white blood cells are produced in that certain region. This is a life-threatening disease which can lead to iminate death for young children. Leukemia affects around 3,000 young Americans a year and this disease makes up about thirty percent of childhood cancers.There are four forms of Leukemia such as Acute myeloid, Chronic myeloid, Acute lymphocytic leukemia, Chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Out of the four types of Leukemia both Acute myeloid and Acute lymphocytic are the most common that occur in children. Also, children who have certain genetic problems such as Down syndrome and Neurofibromatosis have a higher chance of being diagnosed with leukemia. In contrast, a few environmental factors can also help contribute to causing leukemia, such as high doses of ionizing radiation or chemotherapy.
