I am currently a double major with Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. I was not always a double major. I added my major in Computer Science my Sophomore year when I took Introduction to Algorithms, which is a required class for math majors. I added the major in Computer Science because I felt it will help me apply my Mathematics. I am very proud to be one of the few women who is capable to balance not only one STEM major, but two. My academic interests are as followed. In Mathematics I am interested in Probability Theory and Disease Modeling. My career goal is to hopefully go into academia focusing on Computational Science and Infectious Disease Modeling. That I am capable of pursing a degree in Mathematics, even if there are challenges along the way. I graduated high school Spring 2013. I started as a Mathematics major. I was at one point in my academic career that I was going to drop my major in Mathematics. In Spring 2015, I took a hard load from Advanced Calculus, Physics, Computer Architecture, and Probability Theory. But, Advanced Calculus was the class I struggled in. Then I lost all hope, to continue Mathematics, because the class was difficult and the professor was not encouraging towards me that I would be successful pursuing this degree. I ended up with a very bad grade in the class. That grade traumatized me because, I have never received a grade like that. This class gave me doubts about whether, I would be successful in pursuing a degree in Mathematics. I decided to give next semester another shot. I was not ready to retake Advanced Calculus, so I held off on it. I took one math class and then mostly Computer Science courses, Fall 2015. I was not happy even taking, the Statistics class, I have been eager to take since my Freshman year. So, I felt I needed to get more
