Charlotte Bronte was born on April 21, 1816, in Thornton. Yorkshire, England. She was an English novelist and poet. She was the oldest of 3 sisters. The third daughter of rev. Patrick Bronte and his wife Maria. Her brother Patrick Branwell born in 1817 and her sisters Emily and Anne in 1818 and 1820. In 1820 too, the Bronte family moved to Haworth. Mrs Bronte died the following year. Charlotte Bronte died while pregnant on March 31, 1855 in Haworth, United Kingdom. She worked as a teacher and governess before making a poem with her two sisters, Emily and Anne, who were also poets as well. She use to cry because her house was so lonely. She was afraid of being alone at home. She cried when she sees something that reminds her of her past. At the very beginning it explains the setting which was an ‘Old Home” specifically her house growing up. Also she used nature to describe her emotions. She says she used to “grieve” and her house seemed so “forlorn” as in sad and lonely she is miserable. It exaggerates that she has searched for the perfect man but did not find anyone. Connotation is used in “Sea of Life” as in plenty of fish in the sea. Found no place to settle peacefully. A “bark” (symbolism/Allegory) is a ship its voyage is a metaphor for life. The speaker's life journey is now returning homeward bound. “Farewell” is a repetition emphasizes the importance that she is saying goodbye to her past. “Farewell dark and rolling deep!
