Coming from a strict, unhappy, and unwelcoming upbringing, it is quit evident as to why Chase turned out the way that he did. From the day of his birth, May 23rd, 1950 in Santa Clara, California, the pernicious relationship that Chase’s parents held only led to the harm of his mental state. This was heightened after his mother had believed that her husband, Chase’s father, was poisoning her. At the age of ten, Chase found joy in killing and torturing cats, but it was not until after high school that he commenced to killing dogs and rabbits and then drinking their blood. His reasoning behind this was due to his notion that his blood was going to disappear requiring him to replenish. In between those two time periods though, as Chase’s years …show more content…

Throughout those unpleasant teenage years, Chase developed an addiction to alcohol and even took to the abuse of drugs where he was soon on trial for the illegal use of marijuana at the young age of fifteen. But not only was his body beaten up from the abuse of the drugs and alcohol, but his father would often beat him as well, contributing negatively to his sons mental and physical state. Although Chase is not known to have had any jobs after his completion of high school, he did enter college. It was in college where he was ascertained of his inability to perform sexual actions which turned out to be due to his anger suppression and mental illness. Later, at the age of twenty-two, Chase’s parents got a divorce and four short years later, in 1976, Chase received the nickname “Dracula” when he was seen with blood down his mouth and two birds hanging outside of his window with broken necks. The police were lucky when a significant lead fell into their laps. A woman in her twenties mentioned that she ran into a man whom she recognized from high school as Richard Trenton Chase with blood stains down his sweatshirt. With this information, and with the help of Lt. Ray Biondi, the police soon learned that he lived within a mile of most of his murder sites. Police took Chase into custody after searching his apartment where they found a gun that was pinpointed to be affiliated with all of his murders. Knives, boots, animal collars, blood-filled blenders, and body parts enclosed in a refrigerator were all also unearthed along with the gun. There was even a calendar “found in his apartment containing the word “today” marked on the dates of the Wallin and Miroth murders”
