In all three versions of the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene, the chemistry between the two characters is displayed differently, which changes how the audience feels about Romeo and Juliet's marriage. In the play, it is seen that Romeo and Juliet love each other which is shown through the words they say. When Romeo sees Juliet on the balcony, he says, “It is my lady! O, it is my love” (line 10). Romeo deeply loves Juliet, and Juliet knows that because Juliet says in her speech to Romeo, “Dost thou love me? I know thou wilt say Ay” (line 90). Romeo kept swinging on trees and climbing walls just to get back to Juliet. However, in the 1968 movie, Romeo and Juliet show their love for each other through emotions. The two characters kept hugging each other and grabbing each other. Romeo and Juliet were so desperate for physical contact, they kissed many times. Whiles Romeo was there, Juliet could not stop smiling, she was glowing. When it was time for the two to separate, Romeo kept running back to Juliet, and she accepted him with open arms. Nevertheless, in the 2013 movie, Romeo and Juliet's love is not shown. Juliet is emotionless when she speaks, her face expressions stayed blank throughout the whole scene. Both Romeo and Juliet talked in monotone, no emotions to their words, and they barely had any physical contact. They were just two actors doing a scene, the people that played Romeo and Juliet did not get into the character. In all three versions of the balcony scene, Romeo and Juliet did not want to leave each other, they kept coming back to each other. However, in the play the only way their love could be shown is through the words they spoke, but in the 2 movies it had to be shown through emotions, which is something the 2013 movie didn’t
