Childhood obesity is a rising problem and needs to be stopped but the only way to stop it is through education which the U.S government is sorely lacking. There are children that don’t have access to a supermarket and don’t have a car within a mile in many southern states[see fig. 1]. By not having these easily accessible supermarkets they are going to go to gas stations and purchase unhealthy foods on a weekly basis which could eventually lead to a more unhealthy, possibly obese, child. Parents need to be educated on raising a healthy child by giving them the tools to shop more healthily and provide varied meals for their children rather than keep them in the dark to let their children become obese.

Schools also play a large part into childhood obesity as a majority of children eat school lunches so they could be potentially eating unhealthy foods at an important time of their lives. According to Marketwatch “One study found that when a salad bar in a school cafeteria is made more visible, vegetable consumption is five times as high as before.” which could be the answer to all of these problems of kids not eating healthily. First world countries have a lot more obese people due simply to the fact we have enough food to make people in our countries obese and people choose to eat processed, quickly made, and unhealthy foods.
