The Sioux were a less developed society of Native Americans than the Iroquois. They didn’t normally establish permanent settlements because their lives revolved around hunting buffalo and following their herds everywhere they went. The Sioux had an interesting perspective of the supernatural world – they believed it was not separate from the physical world and that it was simply too complex of a thing for humans to comprehend. There was not necessarily an all-powerful being, but there was something they referred to as the “animating force,” called Wakan Tanka, which was responsible for the existence of all things, and that all things were not “real,” but instead “manifestations” that appeared real, yet everything had a living, spiritual value, and all things were connected. The Sioux held a strong belief that they and the buffalo shared a special relationship in the grand scheme of things and for this reason, though they hunted them for food, they held a deep respect for the animals.
By comparison, in New York and New France, where American Indians were allowed to maintain their culture and were viewed as valuable trading partners, relations between the Europeans and American Indians were economically advantageous and mostly peaceful. In the New England and Chesapeake regions, for example, relations with the American Indians were initially peaceful until the Europeans began spreading out and forcing the Indians off of their ancestral lands. Bitter conflicts such as the Pequot War and King Philip’s War consumed New England and had devastating consequences for the American Indians. In the Chesapeake region, too, as American Indians were increasingly viewed as disposable, a series of vicious wars followed. Similarly, early encounters with the Spanish in the Southwest were friendly.

Native American Code Talkers Made World War 1 Interesting During World War 1, there were many strategies and techniques that were first introduced. In particular, code talkers are people who use their knowledge of unknown Native American languages to secretly communicate messages. Because of communication failures, a U.S commander suggested using Choctaw Native Americans to secretly transmit messages. Before this suggestion, Germans were able to wiretap the U.S allies’ conversations; they then cracked their codes which were based off of European languages. Despite the benefits of this communication method, it also caused an uproar for Native American rights.
These indigenous groups had no choices to fight against Britain because their survival conditions would change this war's result. The Mohawk Indians were part of the Iroquois confederacy. They spoke similar languages to other tribes part of the confederacy. Their economy was based on trading goods between tribes and to the Europeans. They were settled near the Mohawk river and the Hudson. After coming in contact with the Europeans, they became one of the wealthiest tribes in the confederacy.
According to Foner, “They did not seek to suppress all traditional religious practices.” Frances’s kindness towards Native Americans was unlike Spain’s oppression or England’s suppression. Furthermore, Foner writes, “the French worked out a complex series of military, commercial, and diplomatic connections, the most enduring relations between Indians and settlers.” Therefore, France’s kindness towards Native Americans helped develop sustainable relationships between the two groups.
Although in this time period, the Puritans were seen as extremely devoted followers of God, they still seemed to be hypocrites as others of this time.
