Scientology is a religion, developed by L. Ron Hubbard, an American philosopher and humanitarian, that speaks to the spirit and not the body and mind. (Official Church of Scientology: What is Scientology?) He decided to dedicate his life to finding answers to the questions people had been searching for since the beginning of times - Who are we? What do we consist of? Where do we come from? Where are we going? What are we doing? In his research he found the answers, discovered the path to total freedom and created a specific pathway for others as a guideline to reach spiritual awareness and freedom, which would help them to gravely improve the conditions of their life and also the world around them. (An Introduction) In the 1930’s and 1940’s, following his departure from George Washington University in Washington D.C., he published short stories in various genres like horror and science fiction. After serving in the navy in WWII and getting diagnosed as permanently disabled due to injuries in combat, he started his first researches. (Encyclopaedia Britannica)(Who was L. Ron Hubbard?) Hubbard then founded Dianetics, which “comes from the Greek words dia, meaning “through” and nous, meaning “mind or soul,” and is defined as “what the mind (or soul) is doing to the body.”” Dianetics promised to help people get relief from unwanted emotions, accidents and illnesses. It was so popular that they created the Hubbard Dianetics Research Foundation and also another extra four foundations, so that people all across America could be trained in Dianetics.
