Charles B. Dew argued in his book “Southern Secession Commissioners and the Cause of the Civil War” that the south seceded to protect the slaves. He also stated the north had larger military forces compared to the south. That southerners fought because of their pride and that is why the war lasted for four years (322). Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana wanting to get out of the Union and become one of their own. The lower southern states persuaded many other slave state to secede from the Union as well.
Many lives were taken when fighting for their country to have justice for what Germany and the British government did. On document 9 it states “you have sickness in your head, for this is not justice.” It demonstrates on how it affected the people being attacked. On the other hand others responded differently. Many African rulers pledge themselves to not start war with other tribes.

Q: How did the coming of the Civil War reflect citizens reckoning with the effects of Democracy? As described by Susan-Mary Grant, the Northern worldview was defined by its antipathy towards the characteristics and values of the South. It could also be argued that the South was sympathetic to liberty and democratic values except for when it came to their slaves. The Republicans were hopeful that after the Kansas-Nebraska bill became a law that the North would become stronger.
This tension between the north and south finally exploded and seven states one after another seceded. In my opinion the secession could have been avoided in 1860 because there was much money to be made with trading and selling of goods. People believed that they needed slaves and could not imagine being without
The late 19th century and early 20th century was time of great social, economic, and political change in the United States (U.S.). This time era was impacted by two major evens, the Civil War, and the Industrial Revolution. The Civil War physically divided the South and the North, and created a dysfunctional country. In an attempt to mend the country the government entered an era of Reconstruction. Simultaneously, the Industrial Revolution was growing and expanding.
There were a few events preceding the South’s secession that were not directly related to the South’s secession. One of these events is the Adams-Onis treaty. This treaty gave Florida to the United States and changed the borders of the United States. Another event is the tariff of abominations. The events I believe were most responsible for the South’s secession were the Crittenden Compromise and the Charles Sumner speech and results.
Civil War ended in 1865 and had positive and negative consequences. It paved the way for the fast development of commercialism and industrialization in all areas of the economy: industry, agriculture, trade. It saved the national unity of the country. This period was marked by strong development of economic as well as social and political spheres of the United States and Mark Twain accurately named this era the "Gilded Age". The development of the American industry led to the increase of the per capita income in the US.
The Civil War was first recognized as being a war to preserve the Union. However slavery was always a part of it from the beginning. After diverse events the war turned into a war to abolish slavery. The Civil War initiated as a war to preserve the Union, but traces of slavery were always seen in it. The Civil War turned into a war to abolish slavery because of two main events.
The beginning of the Civil War can be taken back all the way to 1619 when English settlers first brought African Americans over to the states. When they were first sold to settlers, they were not slaves, but indentured servants, but it wasn’t long before the indentured were treated as slaves. In 1641, Massachusetts becomes the first colony to legalize slavery, followed by Maryland who recognized slavery for life except for those who converted to Christianity, which Virginia shortly revoked this law. In 1688, the first protest against slavery was brought about by Quakers who claimed slavery was not Christian like.
The Civil War Who won the Civil War? The Union Army won the Civil War which was proven when the Confederacy rejoined the Union and abolished slavery. The Civil War was a period in American history from April 1861 to April 1865. During the duration of the war, it is estimated that over 700,000 people lost their lives. The United States was divided over the idea of slavery.
During the Civil War, families were torn apart and left to fend for themselves. The citizens had to hold the responsibility of supporting themselves and their military strength. Citizens did their best to keep soldiers up for the fight. The citizens would determine the outcome of the Civil War. Citizens funded their soldiers so that the war would end.
The American Civil War was a major turning point in America’s history. Before this defining moment, many Americans were cruel to many groups of people, including those of color, and women. This maltreatment of people was the main motivation behind the Civil War. Through the efforts of men (and women) fighting for the freedom of all in the country, the American Civil War redefined what it means to be an American. Two great examples of these fighters are Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth.
North and south were extremely in confrontation with each other over
The cause of the South seceding was because of the idea the North was attacking the South and the importance of the slavery in the South. The North and the South both had different political views that resulted in their views on slavery. The South used slavery to help their economy thrive. On the other hand, the North did not need slaves.
