The Civility Initiative is an effort to create a respectful and courteous work environment. The main purpose of this plan is to improve overall staff moral by attempting to reduce workplace hostility and bullying. This plan affects every company employee. The company will provide mandatory workshops on respectful communication between company workers. The idea is to improve employee wellbeing by developing a healthy relationship between both coworkers and supervisors. Performance evaluations will now begin to measure employee civility as a way to track individual changes. Company cultural changes will be tracked through employee surveys. The surveys are intended to measure employee satisfaction of The Civility Initiative. If successful, workplace satisfaction levels will increase as employee hostility and bullying decrees.
The conception of this plan was a result of many factors. Anonymous complaints, exit interviews, and performance evaluation interviews that all contain criticism of the behavior some employees display. Our company aims to create a respectful work environment where employees work cooperatively. Every employee will attend a workshop on civil communication in the workplace. Leiter et al. reports that unit civility, burnout, job attitudes, management trust, and absences are all affected with improved communication among colleagues (2011). Many of those factors go hand in hand. People are more likely to want to go to work when they work in a friendly environment, so as positive job attitude increases, absences and burnout decrease. Furthermore, as unit civility increases, so does employee trust in management. With the many potential benefits of having cooperative and respectful colleagues, our company aims to gain those benefits with a companywide initiative to increase workplace
