My goal for clinical placement is to learn an effective therapeutic relationship with long-term care resident that promotes trust and open to communication.

How will I know if therapeutic communication is effective in building trust between a nurse- resident relationships?
Learning Resources and Strategies
There are individuals I use as learning resources which will help and guide me to achieve my goal. First, long term care residents; second, my preceptor and all team members and nursing staff; third, facility educator, and lastly CNO and RPNAO organization.
Success Indicators ( Evidence ans Evaluation)
I know I have communication skills that I have learned all through my past nursing career. I will use this learned communication further to communicate with residents. With the residents, I will treat them with respect and observes the way they communicate with me through verbal and non-verbal communication. I will be aware of the religion, background, and lifestyle of the resident that will help me in providing appropriate care to their needs. And I will provide a safe environment when dealing the needs of the resident. …show more content…

And I will observe how my preceptor deals with the residents that promote a trusting relationship with the residents. I will also watch and listen to other nurses to understand how I should act around residents. I will also ask the facility educator for guidelines and videos that can help me in providing best possible care to resident in long term care
And lastly, I will read the CNO standard and guidelines that pertain to therapeutic nurse-client relationship. I will get access to their websites now and then for any updates in dealing with clients that pertain to effective
