Evidently everything that took place at Willowbrook was extremely unethical all around. All ten of the principles in the ATRA code of ethics were violated. There are multiple differences of the Conceptual Framework between the Position Statement and the Code of Ethical Conduct Supplement for Early Childhood Program Administrators. A difference is that the Conceptual Framework involves the responsibilities of administrators within the 5 areas, such as children, families, personnel, agencies and governing boards, and the community and society (Sciarra et al, 2015). The Position Statement is responsible for, overseeing the entire program and interacting with multiple individuals. The similarities are to protect and be able to serve children with the best education services, along with families, and the employees.
One need only look at the history of mankind generally and the history of psychology specifically to reach an agreement and ultimate conclusion that humanity needs rules, procedures, and guidelines in order to properly conduct themselves within the confines of a civilized society. However, “religious moral codes (such as the Ten Commandments) and Secular moral codes are usually vague, laying out general principles that may be difficult to apply to specific cases” (Vaughn, 2013, p. 9). And even for the principles and rules that are not vague (e.g., do not murder, do not have sexual relations with your client) we still witness them broken time and time again.
The Code shifts to a strong principle-based approach while stating virtues in which employees are expected to follow. One provision details, “We are prepared to make the tough decisions or take the critical actions, and do it right,” establishing that there is an expectation that, “We all have a duty to understand and abide by the principles and guidelines outlined…” this suggests duty-based behavior to be placed on the guiding principles established by York County. There are various individual virtues mentioned throughout the Code of Conduct but in the format of principles intended for employees to reference. Anxiety and pressure permeate the atmosphere of the classroom, for the students realize the seriousness of standardized tests. An ethical dilemma affecting my community is one that pertains to America’s education system. The trouble is that through Common Core curriculum and extreme emphasis on test scores, students are taught to conform, and their individual strengths are often stifled. This is limiting the success of America’s students, and therefore, limiting America’s future as a whole.
After completing the Critical Thinking and Ethics in the Public Sector course at Southern Utah University I would recommend that leaders ought to make sure and follow the ethical guidelines that they demand from their followers. Indeed, there is a balance between the individual and the organization that the leader needs to pay close attention to. Moreover, the leader as an individual needs to abide by ethical standards and practice it, so that followers can emulate it in a practical fashion. When a student or teacher of ethics desires to educate others in relation to administrative ethics, I would recommend: • A Foundation in Theory: Students should have a basic comprehension of the main ethical frameworks and be able to use them in a practical fashion. • Know Thyself: Students should understand the importance of knowing how their history, ethnicity, and other social factors influence their ethical decision making.
Because of this statement, it is necessary to have a code of ethics. A code of ethics is necessary to keep everyone on the same page. It gives clear instruction to leaders and followers concerning what is expected and acceptable. In addition to this, a code of ethics will also provide guided principles on making decisions that are consistent with the vision of the organization. Moreover, leaders need a code of ethics to guide them if they want to succeed
My Personal Code of Ethics as an Education Leader As an educator, and conceivable future educational leader, my personal code of ethics is one that envelops uprightness, correspondence, respect, imparted objectives, sympathy, open-mindedness, and confidentiality.
