Tom Landry once said, “Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence, seeing how you react. If you're in control, they're in control.” This quote is saying that the people following a leader need to have confidence in their leader. As said in the quote, if the the leader has confidence, then the people have confidence. Clearly, a collaborative leader is better than a authoritative leader because people thrive when the leader relates to the people. Therefore, authoritative leadership is less effective than collaborative leadership because fear and power create anarchy and dissent, while respect and decency create a harmonious society. This claim can be supported by Machiavelli, Plato and Macbeth.

During the play, Macbeth wants to be the king over king Duncan and his sons and tries to kill them all. Macbeth says “This Duncan hath borne his faculties so meek, hath been so clear in his great office that his virtues will plead like angels, trumpet-tongued, against the deep damnation of his taking-off;” (1.7.16). This is a prime example of why Macbeth does not like collaborative leadership. He is saying that Duncan is loved and only loved, a good leader needs to be feared but that is not the case. Likewise in source G, the video shows that if you have everyone working to accomplish the same overall goal, you will be better off than just taking orders from one person. This still shows that working together as a collaborative leader is better than just taking orders and doing whatever one person says. Another example is in source D which states, “Most people don’t respond well to getting verbally attacked… stating your view and then working out the issue will be much more productive.” This is saying how people do not like to be screamed at or verbally abused, but if they were a little more nicer and found out how to work it out together, it would be a better team effort. This supports collaborative because people don't like to be yelled at and taking orders. They want to work together and reach one common goal. That is what collaborative leadership is all
