Life is shaped according to possibilities, and yet the effort to simply grab a possibility and make it a reality is scarcely ever exercised. Oftentimes people see a slightly daunting opportunity and become convinced that it is unachievable. Therefore, they do not attempt to pursue what they want, throwing away jewels of chances. GSSM seems like one of those jewels to me. It is a diamond among quartz: a school where I will fit in, be challenged, contribute, and sacrifice to get accepted into. The mere chance of quickly fitting in, eagerly contributing, and constantly advancing offered by GSSM belittles the sacrifices that will have to be made. Unlike the average school, GSSM consists of intense science and math courses. Instead of just surveying the broad topics, GSSM offers an abundant amount of classes which focus on specific strands. While enrolled in these courses, I will finally be able to interact with the information and others who share my aptitude and enthusiasm for science. To obtain these specific courses and interactive curriculum, I will make sacrifices. My current school and friends will be left behind; the familiarity of everything I grew up with will be gone. I will no longer rely on my family for support or help. Although the sacrifices are ample, they diminish in the face of the rewards. I will be integrated into an environment where an ardor for science will be encouraged and shared by other students instead of being shunned for enjoying something that others dread. GSSM will serve as a pathway so I can become my best and contribute to society. I foresee utilizing the in-depth knowledge provided by GSSM to help solve world problems, such as a more efficient way to clean up oil spills and creating vaccines for viruses like chikungunya.
