Stephen Covey once said, “Every human has four endowments - self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... The power to choose, to respond, to change.” This quote speaks to me on a personal level. In life there is always a time every individual is expected to grow into an independent, free human being. For many it may be at the beginning of college or even after having graduated from that extended education. However, I find myself taking advantage of that, “…ultimate human freedom…” in high school. Many events throughout my time here on earth have shaped me in ways I never considered possible until after college. I’ve always strived to be an open, outgoing, and independent person and many aspects have strengthened that aspect. It’s almost a guarantee these days that everyone will encounter some form of disappointment. Why is that? That is because no one is perfect. This phrase has been preached to me since the beginning of time. However, no person has to let the disappointing times control their life. One of our four endowments, conscience, an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one's behavior, helped and still helps me strengthen my character for the future. Society and disappointment have given me a new appreciation and new avenue for life down the road. We don’t need to embrace the bad times but build from them to become a stronger
