A passion is what drives one to embark on his or her path to success. The path to following one’s passion can be terrifying, daunting, and most of all, exhilarating. Many great people have stated that with great risk there is great reward. I believe that following your dreams is a great risk and there is only reward. However, there are many intimidating steps to achieving one’s dream. In my future, I intend to let nothing get in my way. During my lifetime I want to accomplish a plethora of things. Designing for a department store, specifically H&M, is my utmost dream. The way clothing makes a person feel is the rationality behind becoming a designer. I chose to apply to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) for a plethora of reasons. One of which is that I attended three days of fashion in the summer of 2015 and became enamored with the school. Three days of fashion gave me an insight to the life of a student attending FIDM would be like. At FIDM, I was exposed to professors that care about the success of a student. Not only was the staff friendly and helpful, I enjoyed the programs offered at FIDM. Merchandise product development is a major that spoke to me, but is not commonly offered at other schools. FIDM’s location happened to be the cherry on top. I have always felt as though I belong in California. Living in the heart of downtown Los Angeles represents everything California is. Diversity, character, and charm are just a few characteristics of California that are encapsulated in Los Angeles. The major I intend on studying is merchandise product development. There is not an aspect of merchandise product development that does not appeal to me. Taking simple ideas such as trends and prices and using them to create garments. At FIDM I hope to learn how to forecast trends, price garments, learn the steps of production so I can one day I can become the creative director of a department store. Overall, I expect to learn the trade of a merchandise product
