I am most attracted to Loma Linda University’s mission to make man whole and continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ and its commitment to faith and science. As a Seventh-day Adventist christian, the motto to make man whole has never been more personal than it is now. As I grow in my experience as a christian, to further the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus continues to take center stage. This mission and an understanding of the need for whole person care is something I seek to demonstrate and encourage through my profession as a nurse and involvement in my community.
My job as a patient care technician allowed me to care for numerous individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Through this experience, I came to the realization that I loved people. I loved hearing their stories and the secret hopes and fears they would share with me in the dead of the night. I realized that I wanted to have a career where I could not only help people, but learn from them as well. I believe a career in the healthcare field would allow me to do this.
UTEP has opened a lot of doors for me, besides the education I received here it also has been my source of income for the last couple of years. Being a UTEP staff and student makes me feel part of something, member of a community, and sometimes it even makes me feel that I am at home. It may sound odd, but the reality is that I spent most of my time here. I have established friendships and relationships that provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary to grow as a professional and as a person as well. I have met people that gave me opportunities to network and collaborate with external agencies that could be potential employers or beneficial contacts, for future endeavors.
The uniqueness of the program undoubtedly caught my attention because of its multidisciplinary track. Various courses such as Motion Graphics and Culture Jamming specifically stood out to me because although they are electives, they are examples of courses that would allow me to expand my areas of interests while maintaining my academic focus. Project Management would allow me to create action plans and carry out real projects, while Media Structures, Regulations, and policy would inculcate in me the knowledge I would need to produce and supervise content securely. I believe UTD’s focus on critical thinking skills would not only prepare me for a career in design and production, but also any path that I would a desire to pursue. Aside from academics, I am confident that the social ambience on campus would suit me incredibly.
For as long as I can remember, I ve wanted to be a nurse. Helping people and seeing a good outcome from it has always been a dream of mine, it started when I was younger I saw my mom and grandma helping different people and nurturing them. Seeing how these people would smile and thank my family for helping them inspired me to choose this career. I love how even the uniform color could put a smile on a patient's face, or even simple things such as just seeing their caregiver. There was once a time when my grandma took me to work with her and although I didn t get to do much, just seeing the workers doing their best and putting their all into the job made me happy and very appreciative of them.
All along, I have managed to maintain the principles of ethics and integrity, a strong sense of purpose, and morality, which binds me rigidly. Appointment as student leader in all stages of my school and college life has presented me with opportunity to interact with people, develop organizational and communication skills. My involvement with speech, debate and sports has made me more than just an academic person In the pursuit of excellence and with a passion to reach the highest skills in my discipline, I look upon University of Texas, Arlington a springboard to accomplish my dreams. This esteemed institution can serve as a ladder and enable me to achieve higher aims by providing me the most contemporary input and exposure.
What would you contribute to the UMSI community and to the field as a whole? I have been out of school long enough to know I still have much to learn, and taking break from education has only galvanized me with a renewed drive to complete my degree. As cliche as it sounds, after visiting Montclair State University for the first time, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that it was number one on my list of where I would love to attend college. The realization that it is the school for me has made my college search fairly easy; for there hasn’t been another school I have visited that I like as much as Montclair. When I stepped onto the campus, the physical beauty of it astonished me as well as the welcoming, promising and diverse atmosphere. I knew right away this was the place I would love to spend the next four years of my life learning, socializing, and blossoming as a person. Aside from the physical appeal Montclair offers, the curriculum seems to be beyond stellar.
