As an enthusiastic and passionate cook, intrigued by a wide range of chefs and their works, I am highly interested and motivated to study a degree in Food and Consumer Management. Even as I have grown up and gained new interests, food has never lost its intrigue or spark for me. I feel the study of the Food and Consumerism combines analysis and creativity, and at degree level would allow me the opportunity to further develop these skills, which I hope to take on into a future career of helping and advising major companies e.g. Tesco on the standard of which food has to be, and developing recipes that they can use and sell. I have especially enjoyed my personal tutors at college Martin Quantrill and Artis Liverpool, particularly learning from their vast experience and watching them first hand has increased my passion for food, as well as, knowledge and skill of the trade, picking up helpful hints and tips along the three years I’ve studied rigorously under their guidance. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to understand different customer needs and learning transferable skills which will help me in the future to understand the way different businesses work and customer needs. I gained greater confidence in communicating my ideas and opinions, which I have found of use in my studies. Being able to express my own points in discussions with work colleagues has meant I have been able to receive and respond to constructive criticism, helping to sharpen my thinking and initiative. I particularly enjoyed seeking specific items for customers who didn’t quite know the exact product they needed. I feel that my general knowledge of commercial retail was widened by this experience. To continue, all experience I have gained in retail will only enhance my credentials for my future career, as nothing will come to me as a shock, I’ve dealt with agitated customers who just want to go home, as well as, customers that don’t know what they need and I’ve had to handpick them items relying on my knowledge to be correct.
