To this day, federal and governmental issues have arisen about common-core standards in school. “Are students learning what they need to in school? Are students learning what they need that would help them later in life?” According to the most recent information from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United States ranked 35th in mathematics, falling behind most European and Asian countries, as well as the Oceania region. In Literature, the U.S. scored 24th, and in Science, 27th. Regardless of these rankings, the United States’ youth (secondary school and below) aren’t putting forth the effort needed to improve rankings, along with other assessments and diagnostics like the ACT/SAT, LEAP, and others. There are reasons for this. They all want everyone to know that their school has the best scores in the district, region, and/or state. The schools stress students to put forth their best effort, barely benefiting the students themselves. We, in Louisiana, explicitly, have all taken the iLEAP, LEAP, and End-Of-Course (EOC) tests. These tests are required to advance into the next level of learning. Many teachers know that their pupils will not need some of the things that they are required to teach. Don’t get them wrong; it’s not their fault. It’s required by the Louisiana Common Core Standards. The Louisiana Common Core Standards are standards of education developed by the government and “education experts”.
