There is a low number for community college graduation rates, and there are many ways to improve it. The low graduation rates call for changes that must be made within the system. The article written by Alina Tugend on how to improve the graduation rates explains in detail why there is a low number of students graduating and the ways that it can be raised. I agree with the article “Revamping Community Colleges to Improve Graduation Rates” written by Alina Tugend for these following reasons: lowering costs, providing more guidance, and require less remedial classes.
One way that community colleges could use to raise the graduation rates is by lowering some costs such as tuition and classes. According to the article, “money can be one major reason community college students drop out,” (Tugend). College can be very expensive even with financial aid or scholarships. When some students are asked to pay more than they can afford, they usually make the ultimate decision to drop out of college.

A Columbia University professor and Community College Research Center director said that while the ratio at schools like Columbia is one advisor per one hundred students, the ratio for most community colleges is one advisor per one thousand students (Tugend).
