Myths are traditional stories that explain some natural or social phenomenon, typically involving super natural begins or events. When Grizzlies Walked Upright and Crow the Daylight are great myths with similarities like earthly elements, human character, and great results. The myths both have some earthly elements. In When Grizzlies Walked Upright they were on Mount Shasta which had snow, ice, and trees. For example “Wherever his finger touched, a tree grew.
The Odyssey had many examples, one of them being, “Homer opens up with and invocation, or prayer, asking the muse to help him sing his tale.” (Homer 750). Storytelling was an important idea for the Greek because everything then was passed down from word of mouth. There was no technology, printing press, or anything that would copy a book word for word except for handwriting. All stories were slightly different from each other because they were modified as they were passed down.
When the word “myth” is spoken or written in today’s society, the first thing that probably comes to mind is that of a tall, muscular man with a beard holding a sword fighting off some sort of fantastical monster. Some of these factors such as the ability to teach and the belittling of fears can be seen in John Steinbeck’s “Tularecito”. Fairy tales are fiction, which means they are not normally true. Since they are fiction one of the things they are based on is magic, also based on fantastic elements, which are things are out of ordinary, or unbelievable, one of the main characteristics fairy tales use is imaginary creatures, which can be like a duck that can talk for example, last thing they use is conflict usually between the protagonist and the antagonist. A fable is just a fairy tale that teaches a lesson for example a good one is the tortoise and the hair.

For example, the famous story about Ulysses causing himself to get tied up on the mast, asking his workers not to unstrap him from the mast. The sirens show up and Ulysses stops his workers ears and his own ears with ear wax so they won’t have to hear the sirens singing their song.

Legends are stories that are retold and revised to stories of heroes overcoming amazing feats.
