The Civil rights movement began for African-Americas to end racial segregation and discrimination. A movement that would take years, lives and pride of many to make each African-American equal to white men. Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King go down in history for becoming the lead voice of the civil rights movement. Rosa Parks was arrest for non-compliance with bus segregation laws, although it was a seat she has paid for. It was known for black women to sit in the back of the bus and to give up their seat for white women/men.
The Civil Rights Movement also made it so African Americans would be treated the same way that whites where. Finally, This movement started to make life much easier on the African American
Starting in 1954 African Americans decided once and for all that now was a sweet time for a revolution. Since the moment they were forced to come to this country they have been treated worse than terrible. They have had to fight and claw for every right they have, and between 1954 and 1965 was an important war. In these years the civil rights movement changed the lives of African Americans for the better, it got the buses and schools desegregated, and gave African Americans the right to vote. In these years separate was no longer considered equal.
The Civil Rights Movement happened because the African American citizens finally stood and fought for their rights. The Civil Rights Movement took place in the 1960s when many cases were brought up to the Supreme Court that led to desegregating a place or even an action. One of the most important cases was the Bailey v. Patterson case. The case’s hearing, Bailey v. Patterson case, took place on February 26th, 1962 which gave the Civil Rights Movement a huge boost. America has long been considered “the land of the free”, illustrated in many historic documents from around the time our country was born. The Declaration of Independence of 1776 immediately showed that freedom, as we declared ourselves independent of Britain’s rule. A little over a decade later, in 1787, the Constitution was created, after the failed attempt of the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution initiated the setup of America’s government during the Constitutional Convention, in which George Washington was selected as the first president of the United States. Another four years later, in 1791, the Bill of Rights was adopted as part of the Constitution, giving Americans their basic freedoms that are very much debated about today.
The tactics used civil rights movement of both the 1950’s and 1960’s were different helped them succeed in different ways. During the late 1950s the tactics that were used were political, while in the early in 1960s they used social and political tactics to get their goals achieved, but in the late 1960s the tactics that were used were primarily economic and social, In the 1950’s, the civil rights movement was very successful because activist showed the level of racism and segregation in the south. The tactics and resistance made in this time period helped achieve desegregation because and the resistance that the activists dealt with just made them become more aware in the media and hopefully spread nation wide.
Civil Rights Movement Many people take for granted not having to sit in different sides of the bus or being able to eat in the same restaurant and even walking on the sidewalk. African Americans before the Civil Rights movement were harassed or treated very disrespectfully by whites. Many Supreme Court cases concerning slavery or separation between blacks and whites helped America get closer and closer to were whites were able to understand that there not much different than blacks: (Dred Scott v. Sanford, Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v. Board). Dred Scott was a African American that lived in the Illinois.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was not the only law that benefited African Americans and showcased their success with the uplifting movement. After the violence in Selma the government felt like they had to do something to protect their citizens, so they decided to write the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to help African Americans officially earn the right to vote (Landau). This was a major decision for the government but overall it gave the movement the recognition it deserved for creating such a powerful impact on treatment of African Americans. Thanks to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 many African Americans were able to vote and many African Americans were also put into office because of this one law (Landau 39). The United States would now have African Americans in powerful and important positions in the government instead of just whites.
The Civil Rights Movement was a important time in history. It changed the lives of African Americans for the better. The Montgomery Bus Boycott, Birmingham Protest, and The Selma March were three of the events that played a key role in the Civil Rights Movement. The Civil Rights movement focused on segregation and giving African Americans a voice in the world.
The Civil Rights Movement changed America forever; it contributed to molding a new, more promising future for citizens. Freedom of Speech, the right to vote, the right to equality in public places etc. These rights helped changed the quality of life for people of colour tremendously. Living in a world of fear, racism, and discrimination began to slowly diminish. The Civil Rights Movement changed Americans for the better, however to every effect there’s a cause.
The Civil Rights Movement was a critical period in history with many protests, boycotts, actions of bravery and so much more to fight for the document established in 1964 that made it official to prohibit discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. From 1940 to 1965, people worked hard together endlessly to achieve a common goal of equality for all because they were mistreated and deprived of rights that all humans deserved. The Civil Rights Movement proved to be successful from the results of the numerous efforts and continuous hard work put in by activists, people of all races, religions, genders, etc. like the desegregation of schools, and public transportation rights which eventually built up to the Civil Rights
During the 1960s, the Civil Rights movement was making its mark on the Unites States history. The Civil Rights movement was not just one single movement it included the feminist movement, gay/lesbian movement, the disability movement, and the Chicano/a movement. Activists wanted change and equality for its people. For example, the feminist movement wanted to be able to divorce and work a job. It was a time for change throughout the United States.
The Civil Rights movement of the 1960s was peaceful in its protests and was fighting against discriminatory and unequal legislation. The Gay rights movement also fought for certain unequal legislation to be overturned in peaceful protests. Though both tried to protest peacefully, many of the protests and movements were welcomed with violence and terror by the oppressor. Many of the Gay rights movement’s strategies were inspired by the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Even though both movements had different goals and causes, they both had to face difficult obstacles and people who wanted to prevent them from achieving the bare minimum of equality.
Two specific topics were equal voting and more integration, especially in the South where the Jim Crow Laws caused the largest issues. The United States has solved these two main issues with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Voting Rights of 1965 removes the limitations on black people while voting. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 bans segregation in private businesses unless it limits access to the public in general. Such as needing a membership in a club.
