In the end, Rainsford’s assumption is accurate; Zaroff is indeed a psychopath, labeling him conceited, unstable, selfish, pretentious and a swindler. Overall, just because someone owns an island and wears nice clothes doesn’t make him or her a good person; how someone acts and treats others is the way to tell the type of person he or she

The short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is about hunting and human life, and reveals that those who are being hunted can have an entirely different perspective on hunting. For example, when Rainsford hears about how General Zaroff hunts humans he says “Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder” (Connell, 25). This supports the theme because Rainsford is relating the hunting to murder, and its much lower level of acceptance in society. General Zaroff changes Rainsfords view on hunting by turning the tables on him and hunting him. Another example is when Rainsford is escaping from Zaroff before he gets hunted, “I must keep my nerve” (Connell, 31).

On his way he ends up falling off his yacht into the warm waters of the Caribbean and as he swims in the direction he thinks his yacht should be he ends up coming upon land. As he is discovering this new land that he comes upon a house that is more like a castle than a house to him. He ends up meeting the man who lives inside and ends up being hunted by the man, and in the end, ends up getting a new perspective on how he looks and feels about hunting animals.

Beverly is the toughest sister and Millicent immediately finds herself being annoyed by her. Furthermore, Beverly does not seem to care about Millicent at all during the initiation, simply treating her as a servant and even disliking her slightly. As soon as Millicent reaches Beverly’s house, Beverly orders her around, giving her an almost malicious tone. She labeled Millicent as a “gopher” to which Millicent found “degrading, like being given a number.”
