The University Of The Fraser Valley second annual sales careers networking breakfast was an eye opener to a second year student like myself. It showed the many sales oriented opportunities available to students graduating or about to gradate. There were three companies that really stood out to me like Pearson, Xerox, and Apex wireless. All three companies varied from their services and what they had to offer, but at the same time if you looked deeper into it they also had many similarities.

Firstly I wanted to start with the differences between the three entry-level positions for the companies I met with during the sales careers networking breakfast. Pearson was the first company that caught my eye, as they are Canada’s leading learning service provider. One of the requirements is that you need a university degree making it an ideal job for recent graduates. Pearson offers an entry-level Sales & Editorial Representative job. What is interesting about this position is that you do not need any prior sales experience, even though you need a university degree, but it is considered an asset giving you a advantage over the competition. Furthermore they want at least 3-5 years of industry bases sales experience, which was the most out of any company I encountered at the career sales breakfast. Xerox had a unique approach to training their employees by offering structured career paths specially designed to ensure the growth of your skills in a specific field. Employees also have access to virtual classroom courses, simulations, job aids and other learning and development resources. This stood out to me because it shows the company is dedicated to building a strong sales team and helping employees to move up or laterally in the company.
