The police force we all know has one main focus, to protect people and the property in which they stand. Patrolling the areas in which they are assigned to, they make sure civilians follow the law and they handle any breakage of the law as well. Our police force is supposed to make us feel safe wherever we are. They have undoubtedly done a great job in doing so. However, over the past couple of years, the police force has taken a toll for the worse.
During her Tedx Talk, she often talks about 21st Century Policing and how it should be standardized in general. In addition, she focuses especially on the first pillar: building trust and legitimacy. The commissioner see community policing not as an expression, but as a philosophy that must be woven into a police organization. She recognizes that there are two groups in society: the police and the citizens. To fix this, the police need to involve the community, not just deal with it.
Dallas Police Efforts to increase Legitimacy The Dallas Police Department is constantly engaged in programs to increase its legitimacy and to maintain the assurance of having an approachable and trustful relation between Police Officers and the public. Also, the Dallas Police Organization is continuously implementing and enhancing programs to involve citizens of all demographic areas of the city, to bring their diverse ideas to have a better community. For those reasons, the Code of Conduct of the Dallas Police Department is designed to promote efficiency, discipline, and good public relations by setting forth policies governing the conduct of every member of the Police Department, both sworn and non-sworn, on-duty and off-duty. Police organizations have been evolving over the years, but still there are so many things that have to be address in order to create a better law enforcement institutions. Police misconduct and police brutality have been the center of many confrontations between police officer and society. It is imperative that police organizations change the police subculture that exist among them that protects any wrongdoing from being disclose in order to promote a more efficient service to society. In the process of doing this assignment I learned how cohesive is the relationship between officers that most of the times protect them when they are acting in a misbehave way. It is really impressive to see how one officer was seen as a traitor in the organization because he decided to report police brutality.
Chief Mangan utilized the participants of these open discussions by assigning the group a title, which he deemed as his strategic planning committee (Cordner, 2016). By establishing this committee Chief Mangan fulfilled the philosophical dimension of a community-oriented police administration, because he facilitated natural leaders, from both the police department and the community, to work concurrently developing a tailored vision for the city of Spokane (Cordner, 2016). Now that Chief Mangan had ideas for city’s direction, the department required a unique mission statement defining their departmental values (Cordner, 2016). Reflection 3: Denver PD On April 13, 2023, Sergeant Damon Bowser and Crime Analyst Samantha Diemer of the Denver Police Department attended our course to speak about policing gangs in Denver, as well as describing the roles of gang units and crime analysts within. Bowser began the presentation speaking about his role in the gang unit as the investigative supervisor, which included all gang crimes going directly to him, as well as all juvenile with handgun cases and graffiti cases. My fieldwork project focuses on criminal justice system specificity on the Kenosha Sheriff’s department. I approach this project with an ethnographic approach which is the scientific description of the customs of individual peoples and cultures and how this will impact the community. Personal values and cultural difference impact the interaction with other and their biases. The fieldwork focuses on the cultural difference, discretion, and discrimination of police and their interaction with the police. Furthermore, according to research conducted by the United States Department of Justice, communities with high levels of disorder possess a more negative outlook on the police (National Institute of Justice, 2003). For this assignment the mission statements of the Knoxville (TN) Police department (KPD) and the Cincinnati (OH) Police Department (CPD) were obtained from their respective websites. The mission statement of the Cincinnati Police Department (2015) states that their mission is to, “… develop personnel and manage resources to promote effective partnerships with the community to improve the quality of life through the delivery of fair and impartial police services while maintaining an atmosphere of respect for human dignity.” They also have their core values included on their website. CPD lists its core values as integrity, professionalism, diversity, accountability, and vigilance (Cincinnati Police Department, 2015).

Both entities emphasize their works based on cooperation from the public and to all work together to achieve the future goals. Introduction The New Orleans Police Department is an organization that struggled long before Hurricane Katrina made landfall in August of 2005. Many residents feared the department and some would say that “the department was infected by a culture of discrimination, abuse, and lawlessness” (Ramsey, 2015). Beginning in the 1980’s, police brutality became a major issue in the city, which still continues now, almost 12 years later. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it seemed that the situation was only worse.

Peace officers assume a focal part in the law authorization framework. They screen criminal movement, tune in group watches, react to crisis calls, issue tickets, make captures, examine violations and affirm in court as required. It is no secret that the United States inherited much of Great Britain governmental institutions. In the Bible, Jesus says “to whom much is given, much will be required” (Luke 12:48).
After reviewing Sir Robert Peel's nine principles of policing I believe all nine principles are still evident in modern policing. These principles of policing were created as a standard for initial modern police forces, however due to modernization of policing through technology and training, some of these standards have evolved to adapt to today’s standards of policing. Let us examine how these principles were the foundation for modern police forces, and the standards they coincide with today, beginning with Peel’s first principle. Peel’s first principle states the basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder (Dempsey & Forst, 2016).
In this week’s module one content. I learned that there should always be police integrity and community trust. “With police and community trust, there is an honored relationship between citizens and a government agency.” (Community Trust and Police Integrity, p.7-16) Secondly, police officers must be trusted to behave in an ethical way on their own.
