The police force we all know has one main focus, to protect people and the property in which they stand. Patrolling the areas in which they are assigned to, they make sure civilians follow the law and they handle any breakage of the law as well. Our police force is supposed to make us feel safe wherever we are. They have undoubtedly done a great job in doing so. However, over the past couple of years, the police force has taken a toll for the worse.

It is the duty of a law enforcement agency to serve the community within its jurisdiction. There are several ways a department serves a community; the goals and core beliefs are usually outlined in the department’s mission and value statements (Gaines 2012). The mission statement of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office focuses on four core values. The ability to enforce the law fairly, commitment to professionalism, service to the community with integrity and trust, and obligation to the duty with honor and pride. The ACSO responded to the issue in a letter by offering proactive patrols and cited their core values in the conclusion of the letter.
Every criminal justice agency has their own mission statement or operational philosophy and some have Social Equity concepts, while others do not. First is the operational philosophy of the Knoxville Police Department, where I have been employed for the last eighteen years. It embodies Social Equity and states, “(1.) Do the right thing; (2.) Do your best every day; and (3) Treat others the way you want to be treated”
For this assignment the mission statements of the Knoxville (TN) Police department (KPD) and the Cincinnati (OH) Police Department (CPD) were obtained from their respective websites. The mission statement of the Cincinnati Police Department (2015) states that their mission is to, “… develop personnel and manage resources to promote effective partnerships with the community to improve the quality of life through the delivery of fair and impartial police services while maintaining an atmosphere of respect for human dignity.” They also have their core values included on their website. CPD lists its core values as integrity, professionalism, diversity, accountability, and vigilance (Cincinnati Police Department, 2015).

Every day, these men and women put on their uniforms and step into a dangerous environment. This is a career that demands courage, and a commitment to upholding the law while keeping their communities safe. In order to have better life people should get an educational degree and work in their field major. However, how if these students are forced to quit education and choose a very simple daily thing in life which is food. Otherwise, should not have to choose between education or food because education is very significant for their career path and their living condition. In the article “students should not choose between Books and Food,” by Clare Cady on February 28, 2016, author’s claim is that students have to be supported to get rid of hunger in the campuses. Therefore, Cady’s purpose is to make her audience who are educators and have high education level aware to solve students’ poverty.
In the state of New Mexico, ninety-four judges, preside. There are thirteen different districts. These are courts of general jurisdiction, which hold jury trials. The 11th judicial court in Aztec is where I decided to complete my ten hours of service learning hours. The judicial court will hear these types of cases: Tort, contract, real property rights, and estate.
I am a well-rounded athlete, and have confidence in my strength. My consistent devotion to fitness has created a foundation, the training from this program will build from this tremendously. What I learn in these two years will become a crucial tool in my arsenal. The duty of a peace officer is to create safer streets and homes by upholding the laws of the land and serving the community. As suggested by some experts, the most feasible solution to reduce crime and at the same time create a better police-community relationship is community policing. First of all, in order to understand more about community policing, one must recognize the true definition of such law enforcement strategy. Community policing is considered an organizational strategy in which the community and law enforcement are expected to work closely together in order to solve problems that affect everyone equally; such problems are fear of crime, physical and social disorder, and neighborhood decay. The main idea of community policing is that those people considered to be law abiding citizens should be allowed to have some kind of input in what involves the police work, in exchange for their participation and support (Jenkins, 1995). This type of interaction is encouraged by the idea that police alone cannot solve all the crimes that affect our communities.
They have to gather knowledge of the crimes in the area and what the underlying causes of the social problems is. They must create a plan that works to deter crime, and assess the progress of those plans to see if it works or what needs to be changed. Because it is still a newer approach, all departments should (if they already haven’t), create a community policing division that focuses on what is going on in their community around them. Officers need to build trust between themselves and the communities they serve; which means, responding to the calls that are considered “non-emergency. This will help the community not only build trust, but hold the officers more accountable.
According to the city of Phoenix operational orders for law enforcement personnel, the guiding values are P.R.I.D.E. P stands for protection and prevention. Protection and prevention are key to law enforcement. For the phoenix police department, it shows the importance of both the warrior and guardian mindsets. The warrior mindset is seen in the aggressive response by law enforcement in protecting citizens from those who break the law. In addition, the city of phoenix also recognizes the importance of community policing, where the operational orders state that the responsibility of public safety is not only in the hands of law enforcement, but also the community and government.
We learned that the mission of police was to fight crime, serve and protect, and promote safety. Their job is to work for the citizens with the power they receive with the job. They have the power to arrest, mediate, use force and the decision of life or death. They have this power to make sure to maintain public safety wherever they go as long as it is in their jurisdiction. Police power is meant to dominate others that pose a threat to society and it implies that there may be resistance to overcome if used.
The main role of a law enforcement officer is to prevent crime and ensure the safety of others. I have always had great respect for the men and women in uniform and have always had the desire to become part of that. When I was fifteen years old I joined the Montville Township Police Explorers, which motivated me to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer. This experience showed me what it takes to become an officer and the dangers that it entails. There are many challenges that law enforcement officers face on a day to day basis to ensure the safety of the people around them.
When it comes to having and being able to maintain a strong moral code, front line patrol officers are the perfect example of what law enforcement requires. To ensure front line patrol officers maintain a strong moral code, they must be able to keep their integrity on and off duty. Officers should have this characteristic before they are hired and should be open for the police academy to repair and strengthen them. Law enforcement requires not only physical strength within the policing work field but also strength within one’s values and their ethical as well as moral beliefs. ‘’Values is the term given to those ideas, behaviors, and actions that are important to us.
