Heidegger’s theory has drawn on Nietzsche's view about “the finite”. He thinks time is limited for each person. “Our provisional aim is the interpretation of time as the possible horizon for any understanding whatsoever of Being”(Heidegger xix). Heidegger wants to describe the meaning of existence, which is the essence of Dasein. In the book Being and Time he points out the relationship between time and existence. On Sartre’s point of view, existence precedes essence. According to Sartre’s theory, God does not create us, so a personality is not built over a previously designed model; it is human being to determine what we are through our choices. In Sartre’s novel The Wall he created a man call Pablo who concerned about his emotional response and understand his death. Pablo thinks his life is meaningless after he knows his death is coming soon. Nevertheless, Pablo still wants to do something to give his life some meaning. So Pablo chooses not to betray his friends, but his choice did not save the poor man’s life and he has to response to this choice. Pablo’s friend died because of his choice, this ending shows us a theory of responsibility. When we make any decision, we choose for all. Heidegger’s “being-toward-death” tell us if we want to understand what it means to be an authentic human being. Then it is essential that we constantly project our lives onto the horizon of our death (Dreyfus 285-286). In Heidegger’s point of view, physical death is different from the psychological death. Death is our own-most possible. It cannot be passed off to another person, and its importance to us cannot be diminished by heroic rhetoric, so each individual has to learn how to die. Even we all know the death, but we still have to learn how to make our life more interesting and meaningful. That is Heidegger’s theory of being human; I think being-toward-death help us to understand the truth of death. Death is something we cannot escape, when and why die is unpredictable. Once we get that theory we can get rid of the fetters and constraints, which mean we can get freedom after we understand our own death. As a human being, we need to know death, and we have to treat our life seriously. The life will not lose meaning due to the death, but it will become meaningless if we lavish decadence of
