This connection paper will reflect the importance of leadership in connection to self-work, society, and my personal experience in the doctoral program. I will discuss and analyze three core courses I have taken throughout my studies at Concordia University. The focus of this comprehensive connection paper will be Transformational Leadership. The concept of Transformational Leadership will connect my experience to the workplace and what leadership style I prefer.

Through my experience in the workplace our personalities are often challenged due to underlying issues of the employee’s. I have learned to bring meaning to my experience in the workplace through the course; Transformational Leader. “According to (Mezirow, 1991)” We draw from upon our past knowledge to make interpretations that help us lead are making decisions based on our experience”. As an employee and a student, I can relate to Mezirow interpretation and how we as human lead based on experience in our lives. What I found working in the workplace for a long period of time you get to know your employee and sometimes that can be a good or bad thing. An experience I can recall is working in an educational setting and my position in this organization changed over the years. My last year working for the organization I became an Educational Supervisor and the employee’s who I worked with for years changed due to my position. The employees who I once knew became resistant and did not want to do their job appropriately. I often wondered if it was my leadership style or was it because the employees who I worked with for years, just did not want me to be their leader? Through the course of transformational learning I learned to self-evaluate myself on my values, belief’s, and experience in the workplace. The course “Leading Organizational Change focused on the personality traits necessary to help organizations facilitate improvement in the workplace. The organization that can effectively facilitate Leading Organizational change is often in schools and colleges. This area of study is my focus area because I currently work in a school setting for a nonprofit organization and the concept of what, and why we do what we do often come up in monthly meetings. Leading with fidelity is the motto of my organization I work for. I had to learn what is in development and how it affects me in the workplace. The concept of organizational development enables the educational system to solve their own problems, by creating a strategic management plan for organizational development. Schmuck, Bell and Bell states; “There is a definite trend for educational organizations at all levels to exhibit increasing formal collaborations and cooperation of staff members. Educators are knowledge workers who must meet in work teams to coordinate their work. Effective team work demands emotional and or group intelligence, not just the energy and influence of one person.
