Children with autism most of the time seem to be fascinated by details that most of us would overlook. They can spend hours watching a small object, turning it over in their hands, and/or examining it. They often like to check the textures or the smells of objects. Some of the children will even lick objects. In this essay I will be talking a little bit more about this health condition. I will give examples of coping strategies, some statistics, and treatments for autism. Autism is described as a complex disorder of brain development. Autism can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep disturbances. Some people with autism are very well at music, math, and/or art. The most obvious signs of autism start at ages 2 and 3. Children with autism might not look at objects when another person points at them, have trouble relating to others, avoid eye contact and want to be alone, and/or have trouble understanding other people’s feelings or talking about their own feelings.
There are many coping behaviors that children with autism use. Some examples are self-isolation in which children stay away from others and prefer to be alone. Children may have intense attachment to favored objects and intense seeking of particular sensory experience. …show more content…

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 68 American children as on the autism spectrum. Studies also show that autism is four to five times more common among boys than girls. An estimated 1 out of 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States. In the United States there are many organizations that support this condition. Some organizations that I found are very close in Orange County. There is CLC of Orange County and ASOS: Autism Spectrum of Support. Each of these organizations provide therapy for the children, parent workshops and social skill
