I have chosen to be an elementary special education emotional impairment (EI) teacher because of my dedication to these students. My educational experiences have influenced this decision greatly. From elementary to high school, I never liked the way students treated peers who looked or acted differently. My Freshman year in high school a group of boys printed off hundreds of sheets of papers making fun of a student who had disabilities. They had tossed the papers in almost every hallway right before lunch for every student to see.
I wish to apply for the position of History Teacher at QEH. I am currently an NQT in my second year of the Teach First programme, having obtained QTS last summer. I started my training at Merrill Academy, a mixed comprehensive school, which serves one of the poorest communities in the UK. My more recent post, at Orchard School Bristol, has required me to adapt quickly and learn new approaches in a different context. Teaching such a diverse cohort, at both schools, affirmed my belief that education knows no boundaries and is the key to unlocking potential in all students, from all backgrounds.
The purpose of my letter is to inform you with the problem of quality teachers I have experienced through my educational career. Through my educational career, I have only had a hand full of quality teachers who truly cared for each student and wanted the best for each student. The purpose of obtaining an education is to actually learn and to acquire the knowledge of the subject and this is where I believe many teachers fail with not ensuring each student truly knows the subject. The lack of quality teachers is a problem because students are not essentially learning the subject.

Individuals, working to be teachers, benefit from taking classes such as social studies, psychology, and language arts. Other classes that might be helpful are courses in teaching methods including those in curriculum design, which teaches how to plan lessons, the philosophy of education, which teaches how to instruct and manage students. To become a teacher, individuals are required to have a teacher’s certificate. To qualify for this certificate by earning “a four-or five-year Bachelor of Education degree with a major in elementary education or a Bachelor of Arts degree with certain specified education courses” (“Elementary School Teacher” Occupational 3).
If a child cannot learn the way I teach then I will teach the way the child learns. My aim is not to be a sage on the stage but a guide by the side. Involving inclusive pedagogy in my personal education will allow me to achieve my goals. I impart knowledge, I guide learning, I channel ideas, I create opportunities, I impact lives, I TEACH!
