I am writing to you to express my interest in the Master’s of Education in Special Education. I have submitted my application with applicable documentation. I currently hold a Bachelor’s of Arts and Science in Psychology from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University located in Normal, Al. While attending Alabama A&M I was actively involved in several organizations throughout the campus. In the fall of 2010 I was selected to represent the Department of Psychology and Counseling as Miss Psychology Club.
I developed an interest in education as a senior in high school having spent several summers employed part-time by Birmingham City Schools. As a senior this gave me hands-on professional experience in child psychology and sparked my interest in the field of Special Education. Even as intern I was able to acquire an enhanced perception of the mental health field, diagnosis, counseling, educational, therapeutic, and other necessary services provided to children diagnosis with intellectual disabilities.
I am very passionate about pursing a career in special education. Currently, I am employed by Birmingham City Schools as a Behavioral Specialist. I work directly with the Division of Student Support Services. As a Behavioral Specialist I provide direct professional services for all children and youth, especially those who are experiencing problems that create barriers for learning and academic success.
